Android is the most commonly used operating system for smartphones and the second most common OS for tablets. Android was created by a small company that was then purchased by Google, who used Android as a free, open source mobile platform. Because of this, many find it very easy to program for and work with. Several small-scale operating systems, such as the Kindle Fire OS, are built around Android.
